TIL that asking 'stupid' questions at my new job actually saved a project

I started a data entry gig last month and my boss said to just 'ask anything' if I was confused. I thought that was just nice talk, so I kept quiet about a weird number pattern I saw. After two days, I finally asked if the repeating '999' codes were normal. Turns out, it was a huge system error that would have messed up a whole client report for a company in Austin. My boss said 'See? That's why we have the rule.' Has anyone else had a simple question stop a bigger problem?

My first week at a call center I asked why we kept getting calls for a pizza place. I was sure I'd sound like an idiot. Turns out the phone number on our website was one digit off from Luigi's Pizzeria. They had to fix the site and Luigi's got a free month of our premium service as an apology. I still wonder how many people tried to order a large pepperoni and got a sales pitch instead.

How many reports had that 999 code before you spoke up?

That's wild about the pizza mix-up. Makes you wonder how long that wrong number was up there, and how many other small businesses have a typo on some big company's contact page. Luigi's probably got a funny story to tell their regulars now.

My "dumb" question once saved a whole database.
