A customer at my shop in Dayton insisted I use a 3M sanding disc on his '67 Mustang's quarter panel, saying 'anything else is just wasting time'.

Honestly, has anyone else had a client get that specific about a single brand for a specific repair step, and were they right?

Yeah, that "anything else is wasting time" line is a classic. They're not wrong about 3M discs, but sometimes a different grit from another brand gets the job done just as well.
