Honestly, I always thought aluminum repair was just a pain. Then I saw a stat from a 2023 I-CAR class that said aluminum body parts can be up to 40% lighter than steel. Found it in their course materials on vehicle construction. Makes you think about why manufacturers are pushing it so hard now.

Yeah, and Parker_hall5 is right about the extra work. It reminds me of this old Ford truck bed I saw once, the aluminum was so thin you could almost dent it by looking at it wrong. But then you pick up the steel tailgate from the same year and it's like lifting a boat anchor. That weight difference is real, even if the repair steps make you want to pull your hair out sometimes.

Exactly! That's the whole trade-off, isn't it? So here's what I wonder: when you're actually driving it every day, does that weight difference translate to something you can really feel, like better gas mileage or handling? Or does the repair hassle just wipe out any good feeling from the savings?

Man, that weight savings is no joke. It explains a lot about the push for it, even with the extra work.
