Discovered that planting marigolds next to my tomato plants in the backyard really cut down on aphids this summer
I had tried soap spray and neem oil for two years with barely any luck, but after throwing in a border of marigolds around my raised bed in April, I barely saw any bugs on my tomatoes by July has anyone else had good luck with companion planting for pest control?

Yeah the early planting part is key, I learned that the hard way lol.

Two feet away huh? That's wild to me because I always just tucked them right up against the tomato stems and wondered why they got choked out. Your way makes way more sense actually, giving them room to breathe and still do their thing. I bet the ladybugs appreciate having their own space too instead of getting lost in the tomato jungle. Gonna try that spacing trick next spring for sure.

Marigolds worked great for me too, but I found you have to plant them early in the spring before the pests show up. I set out a line of them around the edge of the bed maybe two feet away from the tomatoes. They also attract ladybugs which help clean up any stragglers.
