My dad watched me struggle with the fire pit for an hour before walking over

He just handed me a bag of dry kindling and said 'stop fighting it, start feeding it.' Has anyone else had a simple tip completely change a routine task?

That "stop fighting it, start feeding it" idea hits hard. I spent years trying to brute-force a sticky garage door until someone told me to lift it slightly while opening, like @jennybailey's zipper wiggle. Turns out I was just adding more resistance the whole time.

Isn't it funny how we're trained to push harder when something resists? I see this with my kids trying to solve a puzzle, getting more frustrated the more they force the wrong piece. We treat so many daily problems like they need muscle, when often they just need a little finesse and a change in direction. It's a quiet kind of wisdom, learning to work with the grain of a thing instead of against it.

Ever try to force a zipper that's stuck? His advice made me see so many things that way.

That zipper thing is such a good way to put it, @jennybailey. Makes me think of trying to rush a key into a lock when you're in a hurry, just making it worse. Sometimes you really do have to take a breath and wiggle it gently instead of forcing it.
