Vent: Bought a fancy new dough mixer that just sits in my kitchen now
I got this high end mixer last year for around $800, thinking it would make my sourdough process faster. It was a huge mistake. The thing is so loud and complicated to clean that I went back to hand mixing after two weeks. I'm basically looking at a very expensive paperweight. Has anyone else bought a big tool they ended up not using at all? What did you do with it?

That's a brutal purchase to regret. My stand mixer collects dust for the same reasons, the cleanup is a whole project. You could try selling it online to get some cash back. Sometimes the simple way is just better, even if the fancy gadget promised the world.

Hold up, @karenwest, I gotta disagree. My stand mixer is a workhorse. Yeah, you wash the bowl and the beater, that's it. Beats trying to cream butter and sugar by hand for ten minutes. For big batches of dough or frosting, it's a lifesaver. The gadget isn't the problem, it's just picking the right tool for the job.

But what do you actually make with it? If you're not doing big batches of cookies or bread often, I can see it feeling like a hassle.

Tell you what, Andrew, I mostly use mine to mix shame with a single cookie dough portion.
