The guy who wanted a 'simple' trim but brought in a photo of a movie star

This dude came in yesterday with a picture of Chris Hemsworth from Thor, but his hair was maybe two inches long total. He said 'just make it look like that, it should be easy.' I spent almost an hour explaining layering, texture, and that we'd need to grow it out for like six months. He kept pointing at the photo saying 'but it's just short on the sides.' I finally did a consultation and a basic shape-up, which took 25 minutes, but the whole conversation felt like a full shift. Anyone else have clients who think a haircut can magically change their hair type overnight?

It's like they forget hair is attached to a head with a whole different bone structure. The photo is just a flat picture, not a 3D model of their actual skull.

Exactly, it's a flat image. People forget lighting and angles change everything in a photo, it's not a blueprint for a haircut.

Oh man, my buddy had a client bring in a picture of Zendaya's curly bob. The woman had pin-straight, fine hair that barely touched her shoulders. She was totally serious, just kept saying "add the volume and the curls." He had to gently explain that a haircut can't give you a whole new head of hair, and that styling products have limits. He said she left looking a little heartbroken, like he was keeping the good hair from her on purpose.
