Pro tip: I paid $150 for a contract review service before signing a big client.

The reviewer found a clause that would have let the client own my past work methods, not just the project deliverables. I got it changed before signing. Has anyone else used a similar service and was it worth the cost?

That "past work methods" clause is a perfect example of why you can't trust boilerplate contracts.

My cousin got burned by a non-compete clause last year. It was in the standard paperwork for a graphic design gig. They said she couldn't work for any "similar business" in the whole state for two years. Basically tried to lock her out of her own career over some logo files. She had to get a lawyer just to sort it out.

Got mine tossed by showing it was too broad.
