Dropped $60 on a Park Tool chain checker and it already paid for itself
I was guessing on chain wear for years, just eyeballing it and replacing when it looked stretched. Finally bought the CC-4 model last month and found my chain was way toast on three bikes. One of them was about to start skipping on the cassette, would have cost me way more to replace that drivetrain. Has anyone else had a cheap tool save them from a bigger repair bill?

My buddy kept putting off getting a chain checker and ended up replacing a whole cassette and chainring way early. The $15 tool he bought later would've caught it months before the damage.

Jump right in and say that's exactly how it goes with most stuff around the house, @iris_barnes87... people wait until a tiny problem blows up into a big expensive headache instead of catching it cheap and early. It's like that "buy once, cry once" thing but nobody ever does it with the little stuff.

Hate that feeling when a cheap fix turns into a whole big job, yeah.
