Rode past a shop in Portland that had a sign saying 'we don't work on disc brakes'

Went by Bike Haus on Hawthorne last week and saw them turn away a dude with a warped rotor, made me wonder if they just hate bleeding systems or if there's a bigger reason some old school mechanics avoid hydraulic work altogether.

I read disc brakes need specialized tools most old shops just don't bother buying.

Well, is it the tools that scare shops off or just the learning curve on a different system?

Oh man, you'd think disc brakes required a secret handshake and a blood oath the way some old shops act. I swear, some mechanics treat a bleed kit like it's a cursed artifact from a forbidden temple. The learning curve is basically just "watch a 5-minute YouTube video and don't cross-thread anything," but apparently that's too much for the "we've always done it this way" crowd. So yeah, probably a bit of both, but mostly stubbornness disguised as practicality, right?
