Just realized I was cheering for the bad guy in Ozark
I binged Ozark and found myself wanting Marty to win. He launders money and lies all the time. But the show makes you see his side because his family is at risk. Is that enough to excuse his crimes? Like when he tricked that small business owner, I was glad he did it. That feels wrong when I stop to think. How can a show make us okay with such shady stuff?
Remember my buddy who rooted for Walter White the whole time. He got real quiet when I asked if he'd want a neighbor cooking meth. Shows like that mess with your head by making the crime feel personal instead of just wrong.
