Unpopular opinion: I think the 'one more episode' cliffhanger is getting kind of lazy
I was binging a new show set in Seattle last night, and the season finale ended with a character just looking at a ringing phone for a full minute before cutting to black. It felt like the writers just gave up on giving us a real ending. Does anyone else get annoyed when shows rely on that trick instead of writing a satisfying conclusion?

Oh man, my buddy Mike totally lost it over a show last month. The main guy was about to confess everything, and the screen just went black with a loud bang sound. We sat there for a full minute waiting for something... anything. He threw a pillow at the TV and swore he was done with the whole series. It's such a cheap way to make you come back.

It's like every show is scared to actually end a story now.

Remember how my friend got so mad at that show that just kept adding new villains? It's exactly what you're saying, skyler_johnson32, they just won't let a good story finish cleanly. He quit watching because it felt like the writers were just scared to wrap it up.
