My cousin told me to stop buying games for my group and just bring the same three

He said we'd actually play more if we stopped chasing new stuff. We played Terraforming Mars four times last month instead of learning a new rulebook. Anyone else find their group plays better with a smaller, familiar rotation?

Right, because nothing says "fun game night" like watching three people argue for twenty minutes about whether to try the shiny new Kickstarter game or just play Cascadia again lol. Sounds like your cousin figured out that half the hobby is just getting everyone to sit down without a fistfight over the shelf. We did the same thing and now half our collection is just staring at us from the closet, judging our commitment. Maybe the real endgame is just convincing everyone that Terraforming Mars is the only game that exists.

We keep our main shelf to about ten games total. It cuts down on setup arguments and we actually finish more rounds. Your cousin is onto something.

My partner and I got down to eight games last year, @ivan462. It was a game changer for us too, no pun intended. We used to waste half the night just picking something to play. Now we actually get to the fun part. Having that small shelf forces us to really love what's on it. It just makes game night so much smoother, you know?

Totally get that, we did the same thing and it works great.
