Can we talk about how many shops still use lacquer thinner for cleanup?
I was reading a safety sheet from a supplier in Portland and it said over 60% of reported solvent exposure issues came from that one product. Has anyone switched to a safer alternative that actually works on dried poly?

Yeah, that's a scary number. Feels like we're all just accepting some pretty nasty risks because the old method is familiar.

Honestly, that stat is wild but not surprising. Classic case of "we've always done it this way" beating common sense.

Look at the safety record for commercial airlines. They stick to strict checklists and procedures that haven't changed much in decades because they work. That "we've always done it this way" mindset is why flying is so incredibly safe. New ideas sound good but sometimes the old way exists because it prevents real problems. Changing things just for the sake of change can introduce risks nobody saw coming.
