Tried Baltic birch ply from a big box store instead of my usual supplier

I needed a quick sheet for a small job and grabbed a 3/4" piece from Home Depot. It was so full of voids and patches that I wasted 2 hours just filling and sanding before I could even cut. Has anyone else had luck getting refunds on bad plywood like that?

Did you actually check the ply for voids before you left the store? I've had luck getting refunds at Home Depot on stuff like that, but you gotta bring the receipt and the ugly sheet back within 30 days. They usually don't fight it if you point out the defects right at the return desk.

Man, that reminds me of something that happened to my buddy Chris last year. He bought a whole stack of 3/4 inch ply from there and didn't look at it until he got home. One of the sheets had a void the size of his fist right in the middle, like someone just forgot to put wood there. He took it back without the receipt and they still gave him store credit, but he said the manager made him wait like 20 minutes for a "specialist" to look at it. Works if you're patient I guess, but I'd probably just eat the loss and use it for something else.

Right, that whole "specialist" thing gets me. @the_daniel, I had the same thing happen with a 2x4 at Lowe's that was basically a pretzel. They acted like I was trying to scam them for a $6 board. I just started taking pictures of the lumber pile before I even load it now, makes the return walk a little less painful.
