Vent: My old canvas tent finally gave out after 12 years, had to pick between a modern dome or a new wall tent.

It ripped in a storm up near Bend last fall, so I was stuck deciding. I went with the dome tent because it was lighter and cheaper, about $150. Setting it up was way faster, but man, I miss the space and that old canvas smell. Anyone else make a switch like that and have regrets?

Ever feel like you traded a good old friend for a handy tool? Tbh, that space and smell are hard to replace, even if the new tent makes more sense. You'll probably still miss the old one on quiet nights.

Yeah, but it's just a tent. You'll get used to the new one (and the money you saved).

Ugh, that canvas smell is the best part (like a campfire and a hardware store had a baby). Honestly though, the dome is probably smarter for most trips. You can always get a bigger tarp to make a porch area for more space.
