Had to pick between hourly and flat rate for a $2,400 project last month
I went with flat rate because the client seemed nervous about scope creep. Two weeks in they asked for eight extra revisions and I ended up working basically for free. Anyone else find flat rate only works with a super tight contract upfront?

Keep overthinking this. A tight contract helps but you still would've taken the job knowing you'd get squeezed on revisions. Clients who act nervous about scope creep are usually the ones who end up asking for more.

Haha yeah you're probably right. I once signed a contract that had what I thought was a solid scope clause and then the client asked me to "just tweak a few things" and it turned into a full redesign. I practically wrote them a novel for the price of a short story. I've learned that if a client seems worried about extra work, they're usually planning to ask for a ton of it. My bad for being naive, I guess.

Doesn't this kind of thing happen everywhere though? Like when you buy a used car and the seller keeps saying "it's in great shape, just needs a little work." That "little work" always ends up being a couple grand. People who are worried about you taking advantage of them are usually the ones planning to take advantage of you.
