Pro tip: I stopped sending estimates by email and started reading them out loud over the phone first
Had a client last week argue about $150 for labor after I sent a written quote, so now I walk through every line item on a call before I hit send. Has anyone else run into clients who don't read the whole estimate before signing off?

People don't read. They skim the total, see the number, and then question every line later. Walking through it on the phone forces them to actually hear what they're paying for. I had a guy try to argue that my material markup was unfair after I sent the estimate by text. Called him up, read it all out to him, and he suddenly understood why lumber costs what it does. The phone call adds five minutes but saves hours of back and forth emails. I do the same thing now for anything over $500.

Read somewhere that people process spoken info different than written... something about the tone of voice giving context they miss when it's just text on a screen. Makes sense though, hard to argue with a real person explaining costs instead of just a number on a line item.

Read a study once that said people remember 20% of what they read but 70% of what they hear. Probably explains it.
