Switched from plastic wrap to beeswax wraps 6 months ago and it's been a mixed bag

I used to go through a roll of plastic wrap every 2 weeks covering bowls and leftovers. Switched to beeswax wraps back in April after my roommate called me out for wasting plastic. They work great for bowls but suck for anything with moisture, like cut tomatoes or melon. Got mold on two wraps in the first month. Now I hand wash them with cold water and air dry. Anyone else made the swap and found a trick for wet foods?

Wait, you got MOLD on them? That's pretty wild, I didn't think that could happen with beeswax wraps. I've had mine for about a year and I only use them for dry stuff like bread, cheese, or covering a bowl of chips. I tried wrapping half an avocado once and it was a mess, super slimy and the wrap got all stained. Maybe it's just the type of wax they use or something, but I stick to glass containers for anything wet now.

Type of wax they use" - that's actually a good point. Did yours come from a brand that adds like resin or oil to the wax mix? I've heard some are way more waterproof than others. What brand are yours?

Beeswax wraps just aren't worth the hassle for wet stuff.
