Did you check if your table is actually flat first? Those tools won't work right if the surface itself is out of whack.

Yeah, that "check if your table is actually flat first" tip is huge. I learned the hard way that even a slight wobble in the table throws the whole alignment off, no matter how good the tool is. Did you try shimming the turntable base before you gave up on it?
