TIL my local shop's 'mint condition' guarantee wasn't worth the paper it was printed on
I bought a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 from them for $400, which was a big deal for me. They said it was in perfect shape and even had a little certificate. When I got it home under good light, I found a small tear on the back cover and a color-breaking spine tick. I took it back and they basically shrugged, saying 'mint is subjective.' So I'm out the cash and stuck with a book that's not what I paid for. Has anyone else had a shop pull this kind of thing?

Yeah, my own grading skills are so bad I'd probably miss that too. Sounds like what shane_morgan was talking about.

That's a total scam. Read a thread on a comic forum where a shop tried that "subjective" line on a graded book. They got roasted so hard they had to give a refund.
