Caught a landlord trying to sneak a 24-hour notice clause into a lease renewal

Honestly I read through a buddy's lease renewal last week and the landlord added a line saying they only needed 24 hours written notice before entering the unit. That's not even legal in most states where you need 24 to 48 hours minimum. Tbh it felt like a trap for tenants who don't read the fine print. I told him to cross it out and request the standard 48 hour notice instead. Anyone else seen landlords pull shady stuff like this in their contracts?

Landlords pull that sneaky stuff all the time, my buddy found a hidden fee clause in his lease last month.

Ugh that hidden fee stuff is such a scam. I had a landlord try to charge me a "processing fee" for paying rent online that was nowhere in the lease. Hope your buddy got out of that one.

My old landlord in Portland tried something similar but with the pet deposit. I had a cat named Miso and the lease said "no pets" but she knew about Miso the whole time. So I go to renew and suddenly there's a paragraph about a non refundable $500 pet deposit that was never mentioned before. I pointed out she knew about the cat for two years and she just shrugged and said it's standard now. Some people just see what they can get away with I swear.
