Can we talk about that 'watermark everything' advice for freelancers?

I used to think watermarks were paranoid until a client in Austin cropped my logo off a draft and tried to pass it off as their own work last month, so now I'm wondering if heavy watermarks actually scare off legit clients or if they're a necessary evil, what do you do for your proofs?

that client in Austin sounds like a real winner" - yeah no kidding. I actually read a blog post from a freelance director last week saying he uses a semi-transparent watermark across the whole image instead of just a corner logo, and he says legit clients actually respect it more cause its less annoying to look at. @taylor_wells I think it mostly just filters out people who weren't gonna pay anyway.

Watermarks just make you look like you don't trust anyone.

That client in Austin sounds like a real winner. I guess some people think "cropping out the logo" is just an advanced editing technique.
