My stubborn bleach resistant client in Phoenix and the 20 minute olive oil trick

Had a client with level 4 hair that just wouldn't lift past orange, even with a 30 volume developer. I remembered an old tip from a stylist in Scottsdale about pre-treating with pure olive oil for 20 minutes before applying lightener. Tried it, and the lift was way more even and got us to a clean level 8. Anyone else use pre-treatment oils on resistant hair, or is that a bad idea for some hair types?

My buddy's wife tried that on her dark hair and it actually worked, got her to a nice blonde.

Honestly, that's a huge relief to hear, @andrew_shah. My cousin wrecked her hair trying to go from dark brown to blonde at home, it turned this awful orange color. Took her months and a lot of money at a salon to fix it. Sounds like your buddy's wife got really lucky with her results.

Yeah, that orange stage is the worst. My sister did the same thing a few years back and it looked like she'd dipped her head in a bag of Cheetos. She ended up having to cut a lot of it off.
