I finally saw the difference between a 2-part and a 3-part line for a tricky lift in a tight yard.
The 3-part line gave me the control to inch a 15-ton AC unit over a roof edge in Dallas last month, while the 2-part setup felt too jumpy, so what's your go-to for precision work?

Ever think about how the rope material itself changes that jumpy feeling? A stiffer line with a 3-part setup can still feel rough, but a softer line in a 2-part might surprise you. I've messed around with mixing different rope types and the number of parts, and sometimes a 2-part with a really controlled winch and the right line gets you that smooth inch. It's less about the count and more about the whole system's give and take.

Totally agree with @stella111, it's all about the rope's stretch.

Used to think more parts always meant smoother, but you're totally right. That combo of a soft line and a good winch in a 2-part can feel way better than a stiff 3-part. Gonna have to try mixing things up more.
