DAE use a paint roller to apply joint compound on a big ceiling?

I tried using a 3/4 inch nap roller on a 12x15 foot ceiling last month and it cut my application time in half, but I learned you have to thin the mud just right or it'll sag before you can tape.

Honestly, I used to think taping knives were the only way to go. But after fighting with a 20 foot ceiling, I gave the roller a shot. Ngl, getting the mud thin enough is the real trick. Mine was like loose cake batter, and I still had to work in small sections to tape before it dropped.

Tried that once and ended up with a real mess when I didn't mix it thin enough.

What's your mix ratio? I go for a thick pancake batter consistency, maybe a cup of water per five gallons of mud. You still need to tape fast, but it won't sag on you.
