Had a week from hell on a 1950s oak floor in Tacoma. The homeowner kept insisting the squeaks were 'character' and refused to let me fix them properly.

Watched a buddy spend three days on a similar job in Portland. The client called every floor squeak a "charming whisper" and made him leave it. Some people just value quirky old house sounds over a quiet floor, I guess. What did you end up doing, just working around them?

That Portland client is living in a different world. I would lose my mind hearing those sounds every day. My old place had a squeak right by the bed and it felt like the house was judging me. I'd fix every single one if I could.

My first year cleaning I thought those squeaks were just part of an old house's charm. After dealing with a stubborn squeaky board in my own hallway for months, I get why a pro fix is worth it. Now that constant noise would drive me crazy.
