Had a core box explode on me at the old Johnson Foundry in Toledo, ended up with sand in places sand should never be.

Oh man, that sounds rough. Foundry sand gets everywhere and it just grinds into stuff. Took me a week to stop finding it in my car.

Honestly, you found it that bad? I worked a summer at a different foundry and the sand was just annoying, not that hard to clean. A good shake of your clothes and a shop vac for the car did the trick for me.

Seriously, it's the heat that bakes it into a crust. That fine sand mixes with sweat and just sets like concrete in your boot seams and pant cuffs. I had to soak my work pants in a bucket overnight before they'd even go in the washer.
