Caught a paralegal complaining about contract templates on my lunch break

I was grabbing coffee near the courthouse in Spokane and heard two paralegals talking. One said she spent 4 hours fixing a client's NDA because they downloaded a free template from some random site. Said the indemnity clause was totally backward and could have cost them big if signed. That got me thinking about how many freelancers here might be using those same templates without a second look. Has anyone else run into a bad free template that almost got you in trouble?

Four hours to fix someone else's NDA template sounds about right honestly. Probably cheaper to have just paid a lawyer to write it from scratch instead of messing around with some half-baked Word doc from who-knows-where. Had a buddy who used a free software license template and the warranty disclaimer was so badly written it basically said "we guarantee nothing works and you can't sue us." Real helpful if you're selling a product that actually has to function. Sometimes saving fifty bucks upfront costs you five hundred later on.

Templates always take longer than you think, @wadejenkins. Been there.
