One terrible Tuesday made me rethink my whole freelance schedule

Last Tuesday was just brutal from the start. I had three deadlines hit at once, a client kept changing their scope mid-day, and my internet went out for two hours right when I needed to upload a file. I ended up working until 1am just to catch up, and I barely ate anything decent all day. What made it stand out was how one small thing going wrong just snowballed into everything else falling apart. I realized later I didn't have any buffer in my schedule for stuff like that. I usually pack my days tight thinking I'm being efficient, but that day proved I'm just asking for trouble. Has anyone else found a trick for leaving wiggle room without feeling like you're wasting time?

Hold up, is one bad Tuesday really worth restructuring your whole schedule? I've had plenty of rough days with clients and deadlines that felt like the end of the world, but honestly they usually even out over a week. If you're making decent money and most days go fine, don't let one snowball mess with your flow.

Three clients in one day is rough, but maybe you needed just one buffer slot.

That "needed one buffer slot" part hits hard. I used to cram clients back to back thinking I was being efficient, but all it did was make me stressed and behind schedule. Now I leave a 15 minute gap between every single client, no exceptions. That tiny window lets me reset my notes, pee, and grab water, and it keeps the whole day from feeling like a fire drill. One buffer slot might look small but it changes everything about how the rest of your day flows.
