My friend told me to ditch the home office and try a co-working space for a month.
She said it would help with focus and I'd meet more people. I signed up for a spot at The Foundry downtown, paying $350 for the month. After three weeks, I felt more distracted by the noise and the pressure to look busy than I ever did at home. I didn't talk to anyone beyond a quick hello. I'm back at my kitchen table now, which works fine and costs nothing. Has anyone else tried a co-working spot and found it just wasn't for them?

The Foundry is actually $375 a month now, I was looking at it last week. That pressure to look productive is so real, it makes you waste energy on appearances instead of actual work. I lasted two weeks at a different spot before I felt like I was just paying rent to be around strangers. Some people really thrive in that setting, but for me it just added a layer of stress my home office never had.

But that layer of stress can actually push you to get more done than at home.

Right, because nothing gets the creative juices flowing like the silent panic of someone watching you stare at a blank document. Paying to feel like you're back in school during a pop quiz, but the only thing you're failing is your bank account. Guess it's good for people who miss that "someone might walk by my cubicle" vibe.
