My brother's family is visiting and we're planning a hike, need easy trail recommendations

They have two kids, 6 and 8 years old, who are pretty active but new to hiking. We live near the Rockies and I'm looking for a trail that's not too steep, maybe 2-3 miles round trip. Something with some wildlife or a lake would be perfect to keep them engaged. What trails around here would you suggest for a family like ours?

Oh, Bear Lake Loop is perfect for that (we took my nieces there last fall). It's basically flat the whole way around with great views of the water to keep the kids from getting bored. My two were the same ages and they loved spotting ducks and chipmunks along the path.

Henry's suggestion about Bear Lake Loop is really helpful. Flat trails are a lifesaver when you've got little ones in tow. We learned that the hard way on a steep hike last year, the kids were miserable. Having ducks and chipmunks to spot sounds like a great way to keep them happy. I'm definitely adding this to our list for next weekend. What time of day did you go to see the most wildlife?

My nephew once tried to feed the ducks there and ended up tossing his whole bag of crackers into the lake at once (the ducks went crazy, it was a total riot). The chipmunks by the big pine near the west shore are basically tame, they'll come right up to your shoes if you stand still.
