Pulled my old desk out of storage last week and had to laugh
Three years ago I built this monster L-shaped desk out of 2x4s and plywood in my garage in Austin, it weighed like 80 pounds. Last month I swapped it for a cheap standing desk from IKEA that folds up in 10 minutes flat. Anyone else ditch their heavy custom build for something lighter and simpler?
That desk sounds like it could double as a bomb shelter. I bet when you moved it your back really felt that 80 pounds the next day. Funny how sometimes simpler is just better.
Friend of mine bought a solid oak desk from a thrift store, one of those massive old school ones. Took three of us to get it up to his third floor apartment, we were all sore for a week. He ended up selling it a month later and using a folding table instead.
Yeah, "simpler is just better" really hit me. I used to love those huge heavy desks, thought they looked important or whatever. But @knight.uma you're right, I helped a buddy move a solid teak desk once and my back hurt for a week. Now I'm all about that folding table life too, way easier to clean under and move around.
