Just realized the average barber chair from the 1920s weighed over 400 pounds... read it in an old equipment catalog at a flea market.

That catalog was probably for industrial hydraulic chairs.

Wait, are those the super heavy duty ones? I saw a catalog like that once and the chairs looked like they could survive a bomb blast. Not exactly the kind of thing you want in your living room, unless you're going for a very specific look. They probably cost more than my first car, too.

Imagine trying to move one of those things. If @mason_murray8 is right about them being industrial, that explains the crazy weight. I just can't picture a normal shop using something that heavy.

Yeah, the "survive a bomb blast" thing is spot on. I read an article once about how those old chairs were built like bank vaults. They used solid cast iron bases and real leather that was an inch thick. The whole point was to never, ever need replacing. My buddy's grandpa had a shop and said you could drop one from a truck and it would just scratch the floor.
