Vent: Found out my old boss was paying new hires more than me

I was cleaning out my desk last week and found a printed job offer for my replacement. It was for $5,000 more a year than my current salary. I'd been there for three years and trained the person. I found it stuck in a drawer under some old files. Has anyone else discovered something like this, and what did you do about it?

Take that offer straight to your boss and ask for a raise to match it. If they say no, you know exactly how much to ask for at your next job.

Better to have the new job locked in before using it as leverage. Some bosses will just show you the door.

Oof, that's brutal. Honestly, my friend went through the same thing, found a pay sheet in the shared printer. He did what @adam186 said and took it to his boss, but they just made excuses about "market rates." He had a new job in a month paying way more. Tbh, finding that paper is a gift, it tells you exactly what you're worth somewhere else.
