Vent: A homeowner insisted on a 4-inch slab for their patio, then complained about the cost.
I showed them the math on the extra concrete and labor, which was over $800 more... they finally agreed to the standard 6-inch pour after that. Anyone else have a client fight you on specs they don't understand?

Why not just give them the cheaper quote first?

That "cheaper quote first" idea is so common. It feels like we're all trained to hide the real price behind something small. I see it everywhere from phone plans to fast food menus now.

Look at it from their side though. They gotta get your attention somehow in a crowded market. Showing the low price first is just smart marketing, not really hiding anything if the full price is still listed.

Exactly, why do they always start with the low number? I just spent an hour on the phone about my internet bill, and the first price they gave me was half of what it actually costs after all the fees. Drew has a point about getting attention, but it just makes me not trust them at all.
