Coffee flights are popping up everywhere in my city!

I noticed three cafes now offer tasting flights similar to wine bars. It's a blast to compare flavors, but is it worth the extra cost? Have you guys seen this where you live?

In my neighborhood, two new spots added coffee flights last month. This feels like part of a bigger shift where ordinary stuff gets turned into a TASTING event. I see it with tea, olive oil, even hot sauce now. It's like businesses are selling an education and a story, not just a product. For coffee, that guidance can be WORTH it if you actually learn to spot differences. But sometimes it's just a fancy way to charge more for the same old thing.

These coffee flights remind me of how many simple drinks and foods now have tasting sets. It began with craft beer and wine, then went to cheese and chocolate. Cafes are likely copying that to make coffee seem more special and justify a higher cost. Paying extra works if you learn about different roasts or ways to brew. But it can be a trick to charge more for the same stuff. The key is if you have fun and find new tastes you enjoy.

Making coffee "special" sure costs extra.

That tasting flight at City Bean showed me how processing changes the flavor. You're paying for the guidance to notice things, not just the coffee. It cuts the guesswork if you want to get better at brewing.

At the cafe down the street, they have a $12 coffee tasting set. I tried it and felt like a coffee snob, but really I just burned my tongue on three different cups.

Seriously, just buy one good bag and brew it at home to save cash.
