Switched from a flat project rate to a day rate for a recent 2-week design job

The client kept adding small tweaks and changes every day, which under my old fixed price would have eaten all my profit. Charging a day rate meant I got paid for the actual time spent, and the scope creep stopped almost immediately because it impacted their budget directly. Has anyone else found that changing your pricing structure changes how clients behave?

How fast did they stop asking for free stuff?

The third time my cousin asked for a website I just sent her the invoice upfront. They stopped calling after that.

Honestly that seems pretty harsh. Family should help each other out without always making it about money. Maybe your cousin just needed a small favor and you jumped straight to sending a bill. It can really damage a relationship to treat family like a client right away. Sometimes doing a freebie builds good will for the future. You might have burned a bridge over something simple.

Tell your cousin what pat_harris did, it works.
