Overheard a guy at Starbucks ranting about cloud storage and it got me thinking

I was waiting for my coffee and this dude was telling his friend he pays $120 a year for extra iCloud storage but doesn't even use half of it. Meanwhile I'm over here with a $5 external hard drive I got 3 years ago that holds everything I need. Am I missing something or are cloud subscriptions just a tax on people who don't want to plug in a cable?

There's something cool about taking a piece of old tech and turning it into something functional again, especially with how much data we all have sitting around. Quinn's got a point about the sound and feel, those old drives have a personality modern chips just don't. But @emma_jones, I gotta say, they're not really about turning them functional again, more like appreciating the craftsmanship from a time when things were built more solid. You ever actually fire one up and hear that click? It's a whole different experience than just looking at it.
