Warning: My 'simple' DIY soundproofing project for my home office turned into a 3-day foam puzzle nightmare

I bought 50 acoustic foam panels for my Brooklyn apartment thinking it would take an afternoon, but figuring out the spacing and adhesive to actually stop my neighbor's bass from shaking my desk took 72 hours and a lot of swearing, lol.

Oh man, that bass is the worst... I tried the egg carton thing in my first apartment, what a joke. It just made the room look like a sad craft project and did nothing for the guy upstairs who wore boots all day. You end up learning that stopping sound is a whole different beast than just... covering a wall with stuff.

Yeah the "sad craft project" look is too real. My first attempt was taping a bunch of moving blankets to the wall. It just made my room look like a serial killer's storage unit and my neighbor still texted me when I played music. I spent all that time and the only thing it stopped was my will to decorate.

But you gotta start somewhere right? Those egg cartons actually do help with echo inside the room, makes your own music sound less muddy. For a few bucks and some spray glue, it's a cheap first try before you drop real cash on foam panels.
