I always thought cheap black totes from the hardware store were fine until I had to dig through six of them to find my camping stove. Last Saturday I swapped everything for clear storage bins with locking lids and now I can see exactly what's where in 30 seconds flat. Has anyone else made the switch and found a better brand than the ones I grabbed?
I spent two years hanging bikes and ladders from those ceiling storage hooks with the hook part facing in toward the wall. Then my buddy came over to borrow my extension ladder and asked why I made it so hard to grab things. He showed me you're supposed to point the hooks outward so you can slide stuff off without climbing halfway onto a stack of bins. Has anyone else had a garage storage setup that just felt wrong until someone pointed out the obvious?
I swear everyone I see in here is all about pegboard, but I tried it in my garage outside Phoenix and the hooks kept falling off when it got hot. Slatwall held up fine through two summers now, no sagging. Am I missing something or is pegboard just cheap and people deal with it? Has anyone else had their pegboard fail on them in a hot garage?
They had these vertical rails mounted to the wall with simple hooks spaced every 6 inches. All their extension ladders just hang there taking up zero floor space. I got home and did the same thing with some leftover 2x4s and lag bolts. Cost me like 12 bucks. Has anyone else found a cheap way to get ladders off the ground?
I spent last weekend setting up a full slatwall system from Home Depot because everyone online said it was the better choice for garage storage. Last Saturday I was at Ace Hardware on Broad Street picking up some casters, and this older gentleman just walks up and tells me my whole setup is trash because I keep my wrenches hanging vertically. He said I should be laying them flat in drawers or they'll stretch out over time. I've been doing it this way for 12 years without any issues. Got up to my dad's place in Ohio to help clean out the old barn. Found this old Craftsman roller cabinet buried under some hay bales. Dusty and rusty but the drawers still slide smooth. Trying to decide if I should restore it or just use it as is. Anyone else run into old gear that still works better than new stuff?
